Description

I have a job with ink settings (ruling, angle, dot shape, printing method, etc.) defined in the Job Setup. How can I apply these settings in the Image to Screened Separations task?

There are options to use Ruling, Angle, DotShape from the file or to use default settings, but there are no options in the user interface to "use from job setup".

I have jobs which use different spot colors each time, so setting up Screening Exception Rules is too complicated.

Procedure

  1. Make sure that all your ink settings are defined in the Job Setup. You can do this either manually, based on an XML file via the Create Job task or via JDF Job Creation. JDF Job Creation is only available if you have the appropriate licenses.

How to set up the ink in the job setup automatically via Create Job task or via the JDF Job Creation is not the scope of this article.
  2. In your workflow, first use Check Job Parameters task and then the Image to Screened Separations task.

  3. Set Check Job Parameters to Auto Correct inks and disable the Barcode check. You need this extra step to apply the setup from the job (so from the XML) into your file. If you also want to set the order of the inks, then use Auto Correct (Strict checking).

  4. In the Image to Screened Separations task use the file-related screening settings. In the Separations tab > Default Separation Settings > select All in the Use from file drop-down menu.

  5. Because the settings are applied on the file, the Image to Screened Separations task will apply the file's settings and not the default settings for all the inks which are defined in the Job Setup.
