Description

I only have an A3D file but need the 2D geometry.

Procedure

  1. Open the A3D file.
  2. Go to the Tools menu > click Convert To 2D.
  3. Select the design you wish to convert.
  4. Select the parameter set.

This will create the 2D file based on information within the 3D file and only that information.

This means any manufacturing information, annotations, the other layers and most of the information within the original ARD other than the geometry and graphics will be missing. The geometry will almost certainly be different than the source file as the process of converting to 3D will fix up gaps, combine lines and perform other operations to try and piece together a cohesive 3D model.

Using the original ARD will always be better, if available.
