How is a new canvas part created when multiple geometric shapes are selected?

Answer

ArtiosCAD will always split selected geometry into a new part number regardless of the part it belongs to.

Assume this simple example. Three shapes reside in part 100.  Two shapes reside in part 25.

Further assume that the rectangle and circle in part 100 will be split into a new part. In this case, the shapes are associated with the same part. Said parts are selected and the Split option is invoked.

The selected rectangle and circle are split into part 3:

But now assume, the user wants to split the circles into their own part.  In this case, the circles are currently in two separate parts.

In this case, the geometry even though located in two different parts, will now be split into the same part:
