Question

What are the main advantages and known limitations when upgrading to ArtPro 18.0 and PowerLayout 18.0?

Answer

ArtPro 18 is 64 bit!

ArtPro, PowerLayout and ArtPrinter 18 are now future proof 64 bit applications, supported on Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra) and 10.14 (Mojave).

Some limitations and remarks:

  • The legacy 'Automatic Trapping' is no longer available in this version. You can use 'PowerTrapper' instead.
  • Contone Editing (ArtColor) is not available in this version. Opening of ArtPro files with existing Contone images is fully supported. You can continue using the ArtColor module in ArtPro 16.1.1. Contact your local sales rep for more information about migration to the DeskPack for Adobe® Photoshop® plugins (www.esko.com/products/deskpack/plugins/flexo-tools and https://www.esko.com/en/products/deskpack/plugins/ink-tools).
  • The Step & Repeat 3D View and GridWarp 3D view (both using the ArtRender module) are not available in this version. You can continue using the ArtRender module in ArtPro 16.1.1.
  • The Preflight Profile Editor is not available in this version. You can use the built-in Enfocus Preflight Editor in ArtPro+ (ArtPro and ArtPro+ can be run on the same workstation using your ArtPro license, no additional license is required).
  • Viewer Compare is not available in this version. ArtPro+ has a Quality Control Compare tool that can be used to compare files (ArtPro and ArtPro+ can be run on the same workstation using your ArtPro license, no additional license is required).
  • Structural Design "Import from Shapes" is not available in this version. Shapes can be downloaded via the free Data Exchange plugins for Adobe® Illustrator® (https://www.esko.com/en/support/downloadsandlicenses/free-software).
