Prerequisites - What do you need to activate an Esko license?

An Esko ID (account - your email address).

  • An HTML-file with your product keys (a product key looks like ABCDEF-123456-GHIJKL-789012-MNOPQR)
    • We send product key HTML-files always via e-mail to the requester or to the contact person for the order. You can also download your HTML-files from MySoftware.esko.com/Licenses.
    • If you don't have your HTML-file please contact Esko Support to send it to you.
  • The Esko software installed on your computer, including the Esko Local License Manager or Esko Network License Manager. You can download your Esko software, including the License Managers, from MySoftware.esko.com.

How to activate local or network licenses?

Online activation - your computer is connected to the Internet

On...You can find the License Managers here...
On Windows 

Go to Start > All Programs > Esko > Manage Local Licenses.

Or Start > All Programs > Esko > Network License Manager.

On Mac 

In your Applications folder, double-click the Esko Local License Manager icon.

In your Applications folder, double-click the Esko Network License Manager icon.

  1. Start the License Manager application.
  2. Click Activate or drag and drop your HTML-file into the License Manager window to start an activation.
  3. If you're activating network licenses, check the I accept that license services will be restarted checkbox and click Next.
    1. This means that users connecting to the license server might temporarily lose their license. When the activation is finished, they can launch their application again to continue working.
  4. Select the I have a file containing one or more product keys radio button and click Next.
  5. Browse to your product key HTML file and click Next to continue (if you dropped the HTML-file, this will be pre-filled).
    1. If you have a single product key, select the I have only one Product Key radio button and enter your Product Key.
  6. Enter your Esko ID and password. Click Next to continue.
    1. Your license is now being activated. Upon completion, you get a message confirming the successful activation.
  7. Click Finish to close the wizard.
  8. The licenses will appear in the License Manager.

Activate local licenses from within your application

You can also activate local licenses from within your Esko application:

  1. Launch the software, and you'll get a panel to choose your licensing method. Click I received an HTML file with a Product Key.
  2. This opens the Activate License Wizard (Windows) or Activate License Assistant (Mac), and you can follow the same steps as explained above.

Offline activation - your computer is not connected to the Internet

Step 1: Create an activation request

  1. Transfer the HTML-file to the computer where the licenses should be activated.
  2. Start the License Manager application.
  3. Click Activate or drag and drop your HTML-file into the License Manager window to start an activation.
  4. Select the Step 1: Create activation request radio button and click Next.
  5. If you're activating network licenses, check the I accept that license services will be restarted checkbox and click Next.
    1. This means that users connecting to the license server might temporarily lose their license. When the activation is finished, they can launch their application again to continue working.
  6. Select the I have a file containing one or more product keys radio button and click Next.
  7. Browse to your product key HTML file and click Next to continue (if you dropped the HTML-file, this will be pre-filled).
    1. If you have a single product key, select the I have only one Product Key radio button and enter your Product Key.
  8. Enter your Esko ID and click Next.
  9. Click Save As to save the activation request file, go to the desired location and click Save.
  10. You will see a message confirming that you have successfully completed Step 1 of the offline activation.
  11. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Step 2: Uploading the activation request and downloading the response file

  1. Transfer the activation request file, which you had saved in step 1 of the activation process, to a computer with full Internet access.
  2. Open a web browser, go to https://www.esko.com/en/Support/DownloadsAndLicenses/activation/.
  3. Browse to the activation request file, open the file and click Continue.
  4. Enter your Esko ID password and click Continue.
    1. You will get an overview of the licenses that you're going to activate.
  5. Verify this product information and click Continue.
  6. Click the Download button and save the activation response file on your computer.

Step 3: Loading the activation response file

  1. Transfer the activation response file which you had saved in step 2 of the activation process, to the computer on which you want to activate it.
  2. Start the Local License Manager application.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Select Step 2: Load activation response and click Next.
  5. Browse to the activation response file, open the file and click Next.
  6. Your licenses are now being activated. Upon completion, you will get a message confirming successful activation.
  7. Click Finish to close the wizard.
  8. The licenses will appear in the License Manager.

What to do after activating your licenses?

After you've activated your local licenses, you can launch the software and start working.

After you've activated your network licenses, you still need to configure your Esko software to use these network licenses:

  • For desktop applications such as ArtiosCAD, ArtPro+, DeskPack, Dynamic Content and Studio:
    • Launch the software, and you'll get a panel to choose your licensing method. Click I know the name of my License Server.
    • Fill in the name of the computer where the Network License Manager is installed and click Check (if you don't know the name of your license server, you can contact your administrator).
    • You're now connected and you can use your software.
  • For server applications (Automation Engine, Imaging Engine, WebCenter), consult the product-specific documentation.

How to deactivate local and network licenses?

These procedures apply to local and network licenses, both on Windows and Mac.

When do you need to deactivate your licenses?

  • When you want to move your software to a new computer (if you don't deactivate the licenses first, you won't be able to activate them on the new computer).
  • When you upgrade your Operating System to a newer version (because of the changes to your system, your licenses might become broken).
  • When you want to virtualize your system or restore a backup (because of the changes to your system, your licenses might become broken).

You don't need to deactivate your licenses when you upgrade your Esko software.

Online deactivation - your computer is connected to the Internet

  1. Start the License Manager application.
  2. Select the licenses you want to deactivate.
  3. Click Deactivate, the Deactivate License Wizard appears. Click Next to continue.
  4. If you're deactivating network licenses, check the I accept that license services will be restarted checkbox and click Next.
    1. This means that users connecting to the license server might temporarily lose their license. When the activation is finished, they can launch their application again to continue working.
  5. Before deactivating, we will create a HTML -file with the product keys. Click Save as, go to the desired location and click Save.
    1. You will need this HTML file to activate the licenses on another computer.
  6. Your licenses are now being deactivated. Upon completion, you get a message confirming successful deactivation.
  7. Click Finish to close the wizard.
  8. The licenses will disappear from the Local License Manager.

Offline deactivation - your computer is not connected to the Internet

Step 1: Creating a deactivation request

  1. Start the License Manager application.
  2. Select the licenses you want to deactivate.
  3. Click Deactivate, the Deactivate License Wizard appears. Click Next to continue.
  4. Select the Step 1: Create deactivation request radio button and click Next.
  5. Check the I have read the conditions and agree to continue checkbox and click Next.
  6. Click Save as to save the deactivation request file, go to the desired location and click Save.
  7. You see a message confirming that you have successfully completed Step 1 of the offline deactivation.
  8. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Step 2: Uploading the deactivation request and downloading the response file

  1. Transfer the deactivation request file which you had saved in step 1 of the deactivation process, to a computer with full Internet access.
  2. Open a web browser, go to https://www.esko.com/en/Support/DownloadsAndLicenses/activation/.
  3. Browse to the deactivation request file, open the file and click Continue.
  4. Verify this product information and click Continue.
  5. Click the Download button and save the deactivation response file on your computer.

Step 3: Loading the deactivation response file

  1. Copy the deactivation response file which you had saved in step 2 of the deactivation process, to the computer on which you want to deactivate it.
  2. Start the License Manager application.
  3. Select the licenses you want to deactivate.
  4. Click Deactivate, the Deactivate License Wizard appears. Click Next to continue.
  5. Select the Step 2: Load deactivation response radio button and click Next.
  6. If you're deactivating network licenses, check the I accept that license services will be restarted checkbox and click Next.
    1. This means that users connecting to the license server might temporarily loose their license. When the activation is finished, they can launch their application again to continue working.
  7. Browse to the deactivation response file and click Next.
  8. Click Finish to close the wizard.
  9. The product licenses will disappear from the Local License Manager.

How to start a trial?

To start a trial, you don't need a license. During installation you will be asked to confirm to start your trial and fill in your Esko ID, and your 30-day trial period.
