Esko makes several Digital Front End (DFE) systems for OEM partners (HP Indigo, DURST TAU, Epson SurePress, StorkPrints DSI, etc.). These DFE systems are officially not Esko products but are installed, trained, serviced and configured by our OEM partners.
Integration of a DFE in Automation Engine for static (non-VDP) jobs is possible with a few easy configuration steps.
Requires:
a minimum version of 2.2 for HP DFE and 1.2 for all other DFE.
a minimum version of Automation Engine 12.0.
Procedure
Proceed as follows:
In the Automation Engine Pilot, go to Tools > Configure > Digital Press.
In the DFE Server: text box, type the name of the server on which the DFE software runs and then click the Connect button. You should get a green light.
Automation Engine can now send jobs to the Digital Press by using the Print on Digital Press ticket. Introduce that ticket in your Automation Engine workflows. In that ticket there is a drop-down list that refers to the tickets created on the DFE. Using a one to one principle, create a ticket on Automation Engine for each created ticket on the DFE.
When selecting the default DFE ticket in the Static Print Job ticket drop-down list, you MUST select a particular substrate from the Substrate drop-down list. Do not leave it on From Print Job Ticket.
Technical Background
When running the Automation Engine Pilot on a workstation, that workstation (PC or Mac) must have access rights to both the Automation Engine and the DFE (more precisely to the CWFS Interface share on the DFE). In some cases, adaptation of the hosts file or DNS Server might be necessary.
Execute the following command to establish a connection: (In this EXAMPLE, the name of the DFE is ws6600-2-rip)
net use \\ws6600-2-rip\CWFSinterface /user:ws6600-2-rip\admin admin
