Description

How to move Automation Engine databases to a remote SQL Server?

Procedure

This procedure describes how to move the Automation Engine databases to a remote SQL Server.

For more information, see the following article:

Make a backup of the local Automation Engine databases

    1. Open an Internet browser and type http:\\servername.

    2. Login with user admin and password.
    3. Select databases (default will be local servername which has to be selected and the unnamed instance MSSQLSERVER should be selected) and click the lock icon and login with the sa user and the default sa password.
    4. There is a list of the databases in the unnamed instance.
    5. Backup the following databases: BSJobs, FastLane , FastLane_TM and fasttrack (since V14)
      1. Select the database you want to backup and click Backup, browse to the folder where the backup will be stored. Default place is drive:\Esko\bg_fastserver_dbase\databasename_timestamp.bak.
    6. Click OK to create backup.

    7. Check in Server Admin databases, if there is a database instance called EG_APPSRV_JBOSS in the drop-down list (1),
    8. If database instance EG_APPSRV_JBOSS is present, login with user sa and password fastlane.
    9. Make a backup of database FastLane_JBoss.

You can also create backup of the SQL databases with SQL Server management Studio.

  1. Stop the SQL Server database instance in Services and set startup type manual.

Copy database backup

  1. Copy the database backup's files to a share on the remote SQL Server.

Restore the databases on the remote SQL Server

The only way to restore the databases is with our Server Admin tool! In this way, user admin is created with the correct security settings and the databases are created and mapped to the user admin!

  1. Open Server Admin Databases.
  2. Select the remote SQL server (1 in the screenshot given below) and select the correct database instance (2 in the screenshot given below) and click the lock icon to login with sa user (user must have administrative rights on the SQL Server!) and the default sa password as when made by Esko.
  3. To restore the database (BSJobs,FastLane_TM, FastLane, Fasttrack), click + button and the following window appears:

Create a folder on the remote server where the database files will be restored.

  4. In the Database name textbox (1), type in the database name you want to restore.
  5. In the Use data textbox (2), select From backup.
  6. In the Backup file textbox (3), select the path and database backup file name where the database backup is stored on SQL Server.

Browse is not working for a remote server!
  7. In the Master database file textbox (4), select the path and master database file name. E.g.: BSJobs_dat.mdf.
  8. In the Transaction log file textbox (5), type the path and transaction database file name and click OK, E.g.: BSJobs_log.ldf.

Configure remote SQL server databases in Configure

In Automation Engine 12.0.x

  1. Open Automation Engine Pilot.
  2. Go to Tools > Configure > Automation Engine database.
  3. In Automation Engine versions older than 12.1, there is no WorkInProgress tab for the taskmanager FastLane_TM database, as 12.1 the database is called Taskmonitor.

To enable it:

  1. Go to the cmd window.
  2. Type cd c:\esko\bg_prog_fastserver_v070\bin_ix86.
  3. type tmclient enabledbconfig.
  4. Go to Tools > Configure > Automation Engine database.
  5. Adapt the hostname to the new SQL Server name: hostname\instancename for each database.
  6. In the cmd window, do tmclient shutdown or restart Automation Engine server (bgmd) in Server Admin.
  7. Restart Pilot.

To disable the Work in Progres tab:

  •  Type tmclient disabledbconfig.

In Automation Engine 12.1:

The configuration is the same is in 12.0.x except that the task database configuration is called Task Monitor and is available by default!

In Automation Engine 14 and 16:

The configuration is the same is in 12.1 except that the task database configuration is called Tasks.

SQL configuration for Application Server

If the Customer has an Application Server for the Commercial Print applications: PAGES and PROOFS or has the module, the Application Server must also be configured.

Until Automation Engine 12.2:

  1. Go to Start > Esko > Application Server > Tools > Database ConnectionAdministration.

Configure Host computer name (1), Database name (2) as FastLane_JBoss, Instance name (3) (if unnamed instance then leave Instance name empty!),
Username (4) (must be admin) and Password (5) (is admin by default).

Since Automation Engine 14/16

In Automation Engine 14 and 16, the database for the Application Server must be configured in Configure: its called Application Server, default name is fasttrack.

  1. Open Automation Engine Pilot.
  2. Go to Tools > Configure > Automation Engine database.
  3. Select Application Server, modify host name to newserver\instance name.

  4. Restart the Application Server in Server Admin.
