The following are the minimum system requirements for ArtiosCAD 14. Exceeding these requirements will in most cases lead to a performance increase. Running ArtiosCAD on a system that does not meet these requirements is not supported.

Minimum requirements

Minimum System Requirements for ArtiosCAD 14
Processor type and speed

Intel® Core 2 Duo: 2.4 GHz, 2.4 GHz, required.

To fully take advantage of the 3D Data Exchange module, x86 64-bit processors are recommended, especially for importing files of over 100 MB in size. You will need to consider the 64-bit processors for future releases of ArtiosCAD.

ArtiosCAD is still a 32-bit application. All other uses other than 3D Data Exchange modules will require at a minimum x86 32-bit processor. ArtiosCAD will still run on a 64-bit processor but as a 32-bit application.

RAM4 GB minimum

Available hard drive space

  • You need at least 5 GB free disk space for the ArtiosCAD application and 500 MB free disk space on the system partition.
  • If you are using the ArtiosCAD Enterprise client, please reserve an additional 30 GB for the ArtiosCAD application, including the local cache. If your workspaces are large and/ or the cache contents are not purged regularly, you should consider reserving more than 30 GB for the local disk.
Graphics card and video drivers

ArtiosCAD 3D requires a display adapter that is OpenGL and Direct-X compliant.

ArtiosCAD 3D Designer, 3D Connection and Animation require a display adapter with 256 MB or more video RAM. The more powerful the card, the better the 3D experience will be:

  • 512 MB video RAM is optimal for lightweight 3D uses
  • 1 GB or more is required for solid imports and animation

If CAD-X is used in a server environment, the graphics card still must match the memory requirement above. Server-class machines generally do not have high quality or memory graphics cards as standard issue.

Minimum screen resolution1024 x 768 resolution at 16-bit color depth.
I/O Ports and input devices

If you purchased the ArtiosCAD Rubber Nesting feature, ArtiosCAD requires a USB port.

A 3-button mouse is recommended. A 2-button mouse can be used with feature limitations.

Internet connection

TCP/IP v4 required. TCP/IP v6 is not supported.

ArtiosCAD Enterprise 14 uses HTTP as its core communication protocol. For optimal performance, do not drop HTTP to a lower quality of service (QOS), or at least ensure that HTTP traffic directed to the enterprise web server receives higher network priority.

For multi-site enterprise deployments, where a site will communicate with the enterprise frameworks at WAN speeds:

  • T1 (1.544 Mbits/s) is required
  • T3 (44Mbits/s) is optimal
  • When deploying fractional T1s for cost considerations, expect lower performance.
Virtualization

Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion is supported, but please be aware that Esko doesn't test all combinations of MacOSX and Parallels Desktop/VMware Fusion.

Only on an Intel® Mac. Some limitations apply. Direct3D is the preferred 3D rendering mode.

Mac Bootcamp has been tested to a certain point but is not officially supported for this ArtiosCAD release.

Hardware

A situation exists by which HP machines configured with the UEFI firmware crash with a blue screen when ArtiosCAD is installed.  At the moment, this is known to happen on HP machines only and is a system crash. Until Esko can investigate the situation, the suggestion would be to build HP machines with the legacy BIOS.

Supported Databases

On 64-bit operating systems

ArtiosCAD Standard Edition installs Microsoft® SQL Server 2012 Express 64-bit Edition for new installations.

A localized SQL Server express 2012 must be installed on the same localized operating system.

For example: a German-language SQL Server 2012 must be installed on a German-language operating system. A German-language SQL Server 2012 can *not* be installed on a French operating system.

There are some exceptions to this rule:

  • The English-language SQL Server 2012 can be installed on any localized OS.
  • A localized SQL Server 2012 can be installed on an English OS, provided the MUI pack has been configured properly.

On 32-bit operating systems

For new installations on a 32-bit operating system, you will need to download SQL Server Express 2012 32-bit edition from the Microsoft website, and manually install and configure your database before ArtiosCAD can be installed.

The DBA must create an instance called Esko, set the sa password to the default password, create a case-insensitive database called ArtiosCADdb, and an ODBC entry called ArtiosCAD pointing to the Esko instance.

Before you start the installation of SQL Server 2012 on the database server, ensure that your operating system has been updated with the latest Windows service pack, and that it has all Windows Updates applied. During the installation process, SQL Server 2012 will connect to the Windows Update site and verify whether the operating system is up to date before it completes the installation. If the operating system is not up to date, this will result in a very long SQL Server 2012 installation time.

ArtiosCAD also supports:

  • Microsoft® SQL Server 2008, including 64-bit version
  • Microsoft® SQL Server 2005, including 64-bit version
  • Oracle®  versions 9i or newer

Unsupported Databases

The following databases are not supported:

  • Microsoft® SQL Server 7, 2000 and MSDE
  • Microsoft Access
  • Oracle®  7.3.2, 8, and 8i

If an operating system is not listed here, it is not supported. Do not try to install ArtiosCAD on a computer running an unsupported operating system.

Unsupported Operating Systems

  • Windows Server 2003 (all editions)
  • Windows 2000 (all editions)
  • Windows XP (all editions)
  • As of 14.0.1, ArtiosIO will now run on Windows 7 and later OSs.
  • ArtiosCAD 14.0.1 will be the last ArtiosCAD version that will be supported on Windows Vista and Server 2008 OSs. Users will need to migrate to windows 7 or 8 and Server 2008 R2 or higher with the latest OS service packs.
  • Due to a Microsoft incompatibility, if a user wishes to upgrade to ArtiosCAD 14 on Vista or Server 2008, the user must install ArtiosCAD 14.0.1. ArtiosCAD 14 will not install.
Typical ArtiosCAD installations can be Standalone (meaning no other systems are required for ArtiosCAD to work and no configurations are shared), Server (meaning it shares configuration, database and license files with other machines on the network) or Standard Client (meaning it gets its configuration and license information from an ArtiosCAD Server on the network and shares a common database residing on that server). Custom installation allows distribution of ArtiosCAD Server functions to two or three machines.
