The following are the minimum system requirements for ArtiosCAD 21.03 Exceeding these requirements will in most cases lead to a performance increase. Running ArtiosCAD on a system that does not meet these requirements is not supported.
Minimum requirements
Minimum System Requirements for ArtiosCAD 21.03 | |||
---|---|---|---|
Type | Minimum | Recommended | |
Processor bitness | ArtiosCAD is a 32-bit application, but will quite happily run on a 64-bit processor. It is expected that in future releases, ArtiosCAD will be converted to a 64-bit application to take full advantage of such an architecture, particularly memory. It is unlikely that ArtiosCAD will be supported on 32-bit platforms. | 32-bit | 64-bit |
Processor type and speed | ArtiosCAD 2D | Intel® Core 2 Duo: 2.4 GHz, 2.4 GHz | Intel® Core (TM) i7 |
ArtiosCAD 3D - Animation | 2.4 GHZ - 64 bit | Intel® Core (TM) i7 | |
ArtiosCAD 3D - 3D Data Exchange | 3.0 GHz - 64 bit | Intel® Core (TM) i7 | |
RAM | ArtiosCAD | 4 GB | 8G |
ArtiosCAD 3D - 3D Data Exchange | 8 GB | 16G when opening files 500M-1G 16G+ on systems running many applications concurrently | |
Available hard drive space | ArtiosCAD installation | 10 GB (+1 GB on C drive) | |
ArtiosCAD Enterprise Client | +100 GB | +200 GB | |
Solid state drive (SSD) | Improves startup time and access to local files such as defaults of designs and the Enterprise cache. | ||
Graphics card and video drivers | ArtiosCAD 3D requires a display adapter/graphics card that is OpenGL and Direct-X compliant. If CAD-X is used in a server environment, the graphics card must still match the above memory requirement. Server-class machines generally do not have high quality or memory graphics cards as standard issue. | 1 GB | 2G+ |
Minimum screen resolution | 1024 x 768 resolution at 16-bit color depth. FHD 1920x1080 System text scale/zoom size no more than 125%. 150% or higher may be attempted if the display results are satisfactory for the tools used on a regular basis as determined by the customer. Esko makes no representation that zoom levels above 100% will be properly represented on all monitors. For use with an external monitor, the system text zoom/scale size, must be set to the same value for each display/monitor for 3D to render correctly. Windows 7 uses the same size for both monitors whereas Windows 10 allows each monitor to be set separately. UHD/4K has not been certified. If such resolution is attempted on an external monitor, understand that the system text zoom/scale setting must match for 3D to render properly. Text appearance may not be satisfactory at these resolutions if the recommended system text zoom/scale is not used. See the following Knowledge Base articles for more information:

I/O Ports and input devices | 1 USB | ||

Virtualization | Parallels Desktop or VMware® Fusion® is supported, but please be aware that Esko doesn't test all combinations of macOS® X and Parallels Desktop/VMware® Fusion®. Only on an Intel® Mac®, Some limitations apply. The preferred 3D rendering mode is now OpenGL but use Direct3D in the event of unforeseen issues. Virtualized 3D rendering will not provide the same performance as native hardware. Mac® Bootcamp has been tested to a certain point but is not officially supported for this ArtiosCAD release. | ||
Hardware | HP Machines preconfigured UEFI firmware: Refer this article for description and resolution:
| Legacy BIOS | |
Tablets like Surface Pro have not been certified. In many cases, this hardware does not match the minimum required specifications. Screen sizes are also smaller than optimal and compatibility scaling mode needs to be disabled. |
Supported Databases
On 64-bit operating systems
ArtiosCAD 20 and higher is certified for use with Microsoft® SQL Server 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014.
ArtiosCAD Standard Edition installs Microsoft® SQL Server 2019 Express 64-bit Edition for new installations.
A localized SQL Server express 2019 must be installed on the same localized operating system.
For example: a German-language SQL Server 2019 must be installed on a German-language operating system. A German-language SQL Server 2019 cannot be installed on a French operating system.
There are some exceptions to this rule:
- The English-language SQL Server 2019 can be installed on any localized OS.
- A localized SQL Server 2019 can be installed on an English OS, provided the MUI pack has been configured properly.
See: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210665.aspx for more details.
On 32-bit operating systems
For new installations on a 32-bit operating system, you need to download SQL Server Express 2012-2019 32-bit edition from the Microsoft website and manually install and configure your database before ArtiosCAD can be installed.
The DBA must create an instance called Esko
, set the sa
password to the default password, create a case-insensitive database called ArtiosCADdb
and an ODBC entry called ArtiosCAD
pointing to the Esko instance.
Before you start the installation of SQL Server 2019 on the database server, ensure that your operating system has been updated with the latest Windows service pack, and that it has all Windows Updates applied. During the installation process, SQL Server 2019 will connect to the Windows Update site and verify whether the operating system is up to date before it completes the installation. If the operating system is not up to date, this will result in a very long SQL Server 2019 installation time.
ArtiosCAD also supports:
- Oracle® 12c
Supported Operating Systems
If an operating system is not listed here, it is not supported. Do not try to install ArtiosCAD on a computer running an unsupported operating system.
Windows Server 2019
ArtiosCAD 20 ships with SQL Server 2012 which is not supported for use with Windows Server 2019 by Microsoft. ArtiosCAD 20.0.1 will run on Server 2019, however, if the true need is for a database server, SQL Server 2017 should be downloaded from the Microsoft website.
