The following are the minimum system requirements for WebCenter 23.03. Exceeding these requirements will in most cases lead to a performance increase. Running WebCenter on a system that does not meet these requirements is not supported.
In some cases where an operating system has an active virus scanner or security management system active, installation of software may cause issues.
In that case, stop the virus scanner or de-activate the security management system during the installation, and start it again afterwards.
About WebCenter Server System Requirements
WebCenter employs three distinct servers:
- a Web Server,
- an Application Server and
- a Database Server.
It also has a FileStore and an On-Board Graphics Engine (OBGE), which is used to generate view data.
Entry Level (two servers)
WebCenter Entry Level requirements are based on activity with 10 concurrent users active at any time and less than 100 users in the system but works well up to 30 concurrent users for most installations (results may vary depending on application usage and could result in requiring the Advanced Level Setup).
In the Entry Level setup, the installation of the Application Server and Database Server is combined onto a single machine. The OBGE and the FileStore are on the Application Server. For security reasons, the Web Server is always on its own dedicated server and placed in a remilitarized zone (
We recommend the use of hardware firewalls for creating the
Advanced Level (three or more servers)
When the WebCenter Entry Level cannot meet the load requirements of the system, it is possible to scale the system. For security reasons, the Web Server will always be a separate server in a
DMZ. Each of the other WebCenter components (Application Server, Database Server, FileStore and OBGE) can be offloaded onto separate machines in different combinations.
For Advanced Level installations, it is recommended to choose the Advanced Installer option to allow more custom configuration, and to choose Extra Large for the Deployment Size.

For WebCenter to perform according to expectations, the FileStore needs to be on Windows file servers. We recommend to use Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022 as file server (but ReFS data volumes are not supported yet).
As only Windows file servers are supported, macOS X or Unix/Linux (CIFS/SMB or NFS) data servers for instance are not supported (including many Network Attached Storage units).

SQL Server 2012
SQL Server 2012 is not supported for fresh installs of WebCenter as the end date of extended support by Microsoft is currently set at 2022-07-12 (Extended Security Update Year 3 end date 2025-07-08).
More information on the lifecycle of Microsoft SQL can be found on the the Microsoft's website
SQL Server 2012 & SQL Server 2014
WebCenter 23.03 only supports TLS v1.2 or higher out of the box. When upgrading or installing WebCenter 23.03, this can result in WebCenter refusing to connect to the Database Server. Typically this issue can be solved by installing the relevant service packs for the SQL Server installation (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb3135244-tls-1-2-support-for-microsoft-sql-server-e4472ef8-90a9-13c1-e4d8-44aad198cdbe for more info).
Please see check the following Knowledge Base article for more information:
If you install the Global Vision extension on the OBGE, the OBGE needs to be separated from the WebCenter Application Server.
If you install the additional Automation Engine Processor module license for WebCenter, the OBGE needs to be separated from the WebCenter Application Server.

Scaling Recommended System Requirements
WebCenter can be scaled up to 500 concurrent users in a single installation. These limits are set based on our field experience and internal lab test. This limit will be changed to higher numbers as and when we learn more.
In general, high-speed hard drives (both throughput and seek time; e.g.:
SSD) will work beneficial, but are not a requirement. Write speed should not be traded off for read performance as both are of importance to the application. Try to avoid large seek times (e.g.: due to
SAN), also for the FileStore, as this will make performance degrade quickly.
For the Database Server, in general, the higher the read and write speed, the lower will be the seek time, and the better everything will work. For very large installations, having the transaction log, temporary DB and actual DB on an individual
SSD can be considered.
OBGE, it is possible to run multiple preview generation process in parallel if that is enabled in your configuration.
Structured Content Management & Adobe® InDesign®
The WebCenter 23.03 version of the WebCenter Tasks Plugin is supported with versions 2021, 2022 and 2023 of Adobe® InDesign®
