Summary

In version 20, we have simplified the licensing system and product offering for prepress editor products. This mainly impacts ArtPro and PackEdge.

Plato and PowerLayout Standalone will follow later.

Why did we do this?

Eventually ArtPro Classic and PackEdge user will migrate from using modules to using ArtPro+ Editions. Our licensing model needs to accommodate for this.

What essentially happened in version 20?

  • Basically, ArtPro 20 and PackEdge 20 are using ArtPro+ 20 licenses to run.
As a result with a license for ArtPro+ 20 you can freely choose which of these three editors to use:

    • PackEdge Basic is allocating an ArtPro+ Essentials license.

    • ArtPro Classic Basic is allocating an ArtPro+ Essentials license.

  • Any of the major modules; PowerTrapper, PowerLayout or PowerStepper will upgrade an ArtPro+ Essentials to ArtPro+ Advanced.

  • Any of the other classic modules that do not have an equivalent in ArtPro+ continue to exist.

E.g. VRML Export, Design Wizard,... in PackEdge.

E.g. Certified PDF, Macroflex/Mountomatic,... in ArtPro. To be able run these modules in ArtPro 20, these licenses do need to be upgraded to version 20 as well.

  • When purchasing an additional seat of a classic editor e.g. PackEdge or ArtPro, you will actually purchase ArtPro+ and receive an ArtPro+ license that will allow you to run either of these applications.

FAQ

QuestionAnswer
Are my classic ArtPro and PackEdge modules replaced by upgrades to ArtPro+ advanced? No. PowerTrapperPowerLayout and PowerStepper remain, allowing a user to select or deselect specific modules when running ArtPro classic 20 or PackEdge 20.
How does this unification impact “other” modules?
  • Equinox, Plate Cut (aka Staggered Cut), Studio Designer are valid modules for ArtPro Classic, PackEdge and ArtPro+.
  • Hence there are no major changes for these products. The editors simply "share" the licenses when running on one computer.

How does ArtPro+ 20 react on classic ArtPro or PackEdge modules?PowerTrapperPowerLayout and PowerStepper carry an upgrade from ArtPro+ Essentials to ArtPro+ Advanced. Like in ArtPro Classic, the user can configure which of the classic module is taken to activate the ArtPro+ Advanced Edition (network licenses only).
Can I still use PackEdge 18 and ArtPro 18?PackEdge 18 and ArtPro Classic 18 will run with ArtPro+ 20 licenses.
Can I still use older versions of PackEdge and ArtPro with these ArtPro+ 20 (or higher) licenses?
  • With ArtPro+ 20 local or network licenses you can run ArtPro+ 16.0 → 20, ArtPro Classic 16.1.1 → 20 and PackEdge 18.0 → 20.

  • With ArtPro+ 20.1 and 21 licenses the minimum versions did not change, so:
    with ArtPro+ 20.1 licenses you can run ArtPro+ 16.0 → 20.1, ArtPro Classic 16.1.1 → 20 and PackEdge 18.0 → 20;
    with ArtPro+ 21 licenses you can run ArtPro+ 16.0 → 21.xx, ArtPro Classic 16.1.1 → 21.xx and PackEdge 18.0 → 20* (*will be able to run PackEdge 21.xx, but no 21 version released yet).

  • In ArtPro Classic 16.1.1, 18.0 and 18.1, you may need to select "ArtPro+" as your base license in the Preferences > General > Show Licenses dialog, instead of "ArtPro Basic".

  • Content by Label
    showLabelsfalse
    showSpacefalse
    cqllabel = "76726788" and space = currentSpace()

  • NOTE: With ArtPro+ 20 subscriptions, you can run ArtPro+ 16.0→20.0, ArtPro Classic 20.0 (not the older versions) and PackEdge 20.0 (not the older versions).
How is this impacting my standalone Step And Repeat applications?
  • PowerLayout 20 and Plato 20 are not affected by above changes. The licensed version is simply increased to version 20.

  • The unification will happen with a future release.

  • Today PowerLayout and Plato can be upgraded to add a ArtPro+ Advanced to your configuration.

What happens to my ArtPro PowerWarp? Each Warping license triggers the addition of one Studio Toolkit for Shrink Sleeve and one Studio Designer when upgrading to version 20. With these you can prepare 3D shrink sleeve and label models, then load them into ArtPro+, distort graphics and share 3D visuals.
What happens to my PackEdge Shrink Sleeves? Each Shrink Sleeves license triggered the addition of one Studio Toolkit for Shrink Sleeve and one Studio Designer when upgrading to version 20. With these you can prepare 3D shrink sleeve and label models. Then load them into ArtPro+, distort graphics and share 3D visuals.
Can I use the license on Mac and PC?Yes. You can use the licenses to run ArtPro+ on Mac or on PC.
Can I run ArtPro+ and PackEdge (or ArtPro) next to each other?Yes. You can use your classic editor and ArtPro+ the same time. Anyhow you cannot split the license between Mac and PC e.g. one seat of ArtPro+ cannot be used to run ArtPro+ on a Mac and PackEdge on a PC the same time. Please get in touch with us if you want to switch operating systems when moving to ArtPro+.
Can I now use my ArtPro PowerTrapper on PackEdge?

No. PowerTrapper is a product specific module that is not sharable between ArtPro and PackEdge.
