Using Mac OS X Time Machine can potentially break licensing for your Esko local licensed products.
The problem may pop up when you restore from Time Machine. Time Machine can restore licensing data files that were not backed up correct.
Procedure
The default setup of Time Machine will make a backup of all your files. When you restore a full disk, the FLEXnet license files will probably be corrupt (actually inconsistent) and will prevent you from activating your licenses or repairing your licenses. The first two topics below handle how to recover from local and network licenses. The third topic below explains how to setup Time Machine properly so that a restore from Time Machine will not harm your licenses.
To recover local licenses, use the steps below:
Close all applications.
Delete the files esko_00426a00_tsf.data, esko_00426a00_tsf.data_backup.001, esko_00426a00_event.log from the folder /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet.
Activate the local licenses again. You can find a copy Product Key file of the local licenses in your Documents folder. The file is called ProductKeys_Esko_Local_<computer>.html.
If you do not find the product key file in that folder and you do not have another safety backup file in hand, call Esko Support to retrieve a copy of the Product Key file that are activated on this computer name.
To recover network licenses, use the steps below:
Close all applications.
Delete the files esko_80426a00_tsf.data, esko_80426a00_tsf.data_backup.001, esko_80426a00_event.log from the folder /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet.
Activate the network licenses again. You can find a copy Product Key file of the network licenses in your Documents folder. This file is called ProductKeys_Esko_Server_<computer>.html.
If you do not find the product key file in that folder, and you do not have another safety backup file in hand, or activation failed with an error indicating that there no more licenses available, call Esko Support to release the network licenses that are activated on this computer name.
To prevent the Time Machine restore operation from breaking your licenses in the future, use the steps below:
Click the Time Machine icon in the Apple menu bar.
Click Open Time Machine Preferences...
Click the Options... button.
Click the '+' sign to add an exclude item.
Select the folder /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher and click the Exclude button.
Click the Save button.
By adding the FLEXnet Publisher folder to the exclude list, you will prevent the Time Machine from making a backup of the Flexnet license files. A restore operation from Time Machine will not harm your FLEXnet license files and will not touch your licensed applications, with respect to licenses.
