Question

What is the difference between Simple (default) and Advanced installation? How do I know which option to select?

Answer

The choice between Simple and Advanced installation has been added in WebCenter 14.0. Immediately after accepting the License Agreement, an Installer screen allows the user to choose between a Simple and an Advanced installation. Simple is selected by default.

If Simple (default) is selected, you will proceed with the traditional WebCenter installation. However, if Advanced is selected, more configuration options will become available during the installation. These options are described below:

Custom password for "webcenter" database user

A custom password can be set for the "webcenter" database user. In that case, you will need to provide a password value. This screen will only be shown in case of an Application Server installation.

Deployment Size

You can choose between a Standard (default) and an Extra Large deployment.

The Standard (default) option is suitable for systems with up to 100 concurrent users. If Extra Large is selected, Tomcat and/or JBoss (depending on the server being installed) will be able to allocate three times more memory as is the case with a Standard installation.

View Server

You can choose between an Internal (default) and External View Server.

This screen will only be shown in case of an Application Server installation. If Internal (default) is selected, the View Server will be running inside the JBoss process. If External is selected, an additional process running the View Server will be started automatically.

For the External View Server to work, three extra ports need to be open in the Firewall between the web and the application server: 11099, 12500 and 14444.
