Question

Can I upgrade the operating system of my Automation Engine/Imaging Engine Server to a newer version?

Answer

Yes, but you need to carefully follow these steps:

  1. Check if the OS you aim to upgrade your Automation Engine/Imaging Engine Server to is supported by the Automation Engine version you use. You can check this here: System Requirements web page.
Only if the OS is supported, then:
  2. Make a full backup of the Automation Engine. See the following article for more information:
  3. Deactivate the Esko licenses that may be present on the server (keep the HTML file this process will generate in a safe place, you'll need to re-activate the licenses afterwards). See the following article for more information:

How to deactivate licenses with the Network License Manager?

  4. Upgrade the operating system.
  5. Re-activate the previously deactivated licenses. See this article for more information:

How to activate licenses with the Network License Manager?

  6. Reboot the server: the Automation Engine/Imaging Engine service should automatically start-up as usual.
