The following are the minimum system requirements for Imaging Engine 16 Powered by Adobe®. Exceeding these requirements will in most cases lead to a performance increase. Running Imaging Engine Powered by Adobe® on a system that does not meet these requirements is not supported.

Minimum requirements

Minimum System Requirements for Imaging Engine 16 Powered by Adobe®
Processor type and speedonly 64-bit compatible processor (Intel or AMD), minimal dual-core, recommended dual quad-core.
RAM

4GB RAM per worker.

For more info about memory limitations in Windows operating systems, please consult this table.

Available hard drive space

An NTFS volume is required. The software takes about 20 GB of disk space. Also take into account the need for storage of temporary and production data. A backup solution is strongly advised.
Minimum screen resolutionMinimum 1280 x 1024 resolution, true color depth.
Network connection10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet, TCP/IP v4 protocol, TCP/IP v6 protocol is not supported.
File servers

All Esko applications running on Windows OS can use data that is available on network shares. These shares need to be on Windows file servers. We recommend to use Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 as file server.

Virtualization
  • VMware ESX version 4, 4.1, 5, 5.1 and 5.5
  • Microsoft Hyper-V

Hardware connections, including dongles, proofers, spectrophotometers and others may work, but are not supported. Customers should verify hardware support through their virtualization support channels.

Content proofing

In case the 'Proof for Content Approval' ticket is available on Imaging Engine, an additional Proof Server is required. This Proof Server can be installed next to Imaging Engine or on a different machine.

For the system requirements of the Proof Server before version 16.0.2, refer to: KB179220628: Proof Server - System Requirements for Esko Proof Server
Imaging Engine v16.0.2 requires a new Proof Server version 16.0.2: KB184716484: Proof Server - System Requirements for Esko Proof Server 16.0.2

Setup Guideline in relation to Automation Engine and Proof Server

Imaging Engine, Automation Engine and Proof Server must run the same version.

Number of workers for Imaging Engine is limited by both:

  • Number of worker licenses.
  • Number of available cores to Imaging Engine.

To guarantee minimal resources:

  • Automation Engine (or Automation Engine assistant) requires at least one core.
  • Proof Server requires at least two cores.

Therefore:

Number of available cores to Imaging Engine When Automation Engine  (or Automation Engine assistant) does not run on the machine When Automation Engine (or Automation Engine assistant) runs on the machine
When Proof Server does not run on the machine

Number of available cores on the machine

Number of available cores on the machine - 1
When Proof Server runs on the machineNumber of available cores on the machine - 2Number of available cores on the machine - 3

Guidelines in relation to Performance

To improve performance, we recommend the following order of choice to install Imaging Engine on:

  1. a dedicated defragmented hard disk
  2. a dedicated hard disk
  3. a defragmented hard disk
  4. a hard disk with an abundance of free space

On top of this, we recommend a Solid-State drive (SSD) above a Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
