Summary
Bitmap Viewer prompts an error message at launch and doesn't work anymore. The error message reads "Cannot initialize application: java.lang.RuntimeException:java.io.IOException: Could not get shell folder ID list".
Symptoms
When tried to launch Bitmap Viewer, it pops out error message as shown in the below screenshot and quits.
Solution
The error message indicates that Windows Explorer Shell folder path cannot be resolved.
Please check the registry (regedit) keys in this location, for paths that point to invalid or disconnected locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Example Scenario
Check Windows Explorer Shell Folders (such as Personal [aka My Documents] or My Pictures) points to a location on a remote/network computer, and that location is unreachable.
If so, change the path to local host user profile shell folder (see below):
My Music = %USERPROFILE%\Music
My Pictures = %USERPROFILE%\Pictures
Personal = %USERPROFILE%\Documents
This solved the problem in one specific case.
