Summary

Imaging Engine tasks (usually with Imaging Engine running on a separate (not the Automation Engine) server) fail with:

"Imaging Engine ERROR: jobDone: Could not write the return JDF or failed to send the ReturnQueueEntry message".

Symptoms

(Very likely, Imaging Engine runs on another server than the Automation Engine server)

Imagine Engine tasks process all the way and output files are generated correctly, but in the end the tasks fail with

"Imaging Engine ERROR: jobDone: Could not write the return JDF or failed to send the ReturnQueueEntry message".

Solution

There are three possible causes that will result in this error:

  • An error while generating the returnJDF XML structure.
  • The returnJDF cannot be written into the ...<AEshare>/AutomationEngineTempFolder/Imaging/Returnjdf/ folder.
  • A failure to send the JMF message with ReturnJDF URL back to Automation Engine.

The most likely cause is Imaging Engine failing to write the returnJDF into the \\AEserver\AutomationEngineTempFolder\Imaging\Returnjdf\ folder.

The AutomationEngineTmpFolder share refers to Drive:\Esko\bg_data_fastserver_v100\Tmp. On an OS level, please verify the security settings (starting from the Drive:\Esko folder) and the sharing options (for this share). If needed, add the account used for the Imaging Engine BGMD service (preferably always the same account as the Automation Engine (BGMD) System account, by default local user BGSystem) and give him full access.
