KB110363248: Dynamic Marks - Art that contains linked elements can't be used as a Mark

Summary

Not able to Add selected art as mark in the Dynamic Marks palette.

Message is shown:

"Art that contains linked elements can't be used as a Mark."

Symptoms

The symptoms are that when you click the Add selected art as mark button in the Dynamic Marks palette, a message similar to the above screenshot will pop up.

Also when you check the links in the AI file, you will see that a link is available.

The linked image is what the message is complaining about.

Solution

When you choose to Embed the image, you will be able to click the Add selected art as mark button in the Dynamic Marks. The image will be added in the Dynamic Marks list.

Workaround

The workaround is to check off the Link checkbox when you place the image.
