Description

How can the Customer ID linked to my job be added to the output filename from my Gang run?

Procedure

As the Export of the Nested Layout happens in another workflow in Gang run printing, there is no link anymore to a job or other information.

So, no SmartNames can be resolved. To be able to do so, we have to work with grouping keys. These grouping keys are used in the first workflow to send to the Gang run and are handed over to the second workflow to export the nested layouts.

Please follow the steps given below to set this up:

  1. Go to the Automation Engine Pilot > Tools menu > Configure > Gang Run Printing.
  2. Enable the Use the customer field as grouping key option.
  3. Go to File menu > save and close the Configure.
  4. Go back to your Automation Engine Pilot and open the Submit to Gang run task from your first workflow.
  5. Go to the Extra tab and make sure the Customer ID is filled in by using, for example, a SmartName.
  6. Save the ticket.
  7. Now launch a task using this workflow
  8. Go to the gang run printing queue and release your task.
  9. Go to the Automation Engine tasks view and open your workflow of the Export Nested Layouts.
  10. Go to Advanced > Manage workflow parameters and verify that the Customer ID got added. You can now use this as a workflow parameter SmartName in your ticket.
  11. Open your Export Nested Layout task and go to the Production files tab.
  12. Select the Output name field and click the SmartNames icon.
  13. Choose Workflow parameters and insert the wfp.CustomerId.
  14. Click Ok and save the workflow.

As a test, you can now launch a workflow again and release the task in the Gang run printing queue. If you check the output file, it should now contain the Customer ID.

This example shows you to add the Customer ID, but you can specify other custom fields as well:

  1. Go to the Automation Engine Configure > Gang run Printing again and specify the name for the custom field.
  2. Enable the Use grouping key option next to it.
  3. Open your Submit to Gang run ticket and go to the Extra tab.
  4. The name you specified will appear.
  5. Now, follow the same steps as you did for the Customer ID, so this custom field gets used in the output filename of the exported nested layout.
