Summary
When you start the Palletization process from ArtiosCAD, there are three things that you might need to consider:
Is your product represented by 3D solid and can it be stacked without an additional case or dividers? For e.g., is your 3D model the primary carton?
Is your 3D model the product and do you want to put your product in a primary package? Do you want to ship the primary packs in a shipping case?
We import the 3D solid that we want to add in our desired shipping package, and we start the Palletization process.
CAPE is not aware of the material of the products, but it only cares about the size of the 3D solid image. What CAPE does is calculate the dimension of the 3D solid and prepares a shipping case that satisfies our pre-seeded requirements (such as quantity of our 3D solids that we want to add in the shipping case, and the weight of the actual product represented by 3D solid). If you import the 3D solid image of a bottle into ArtiosCAD and start the Palletization workflow, ArtiosCAD will be happy to provide you a palletized solution, but you might want to think about a suitable way to palletize your product. For example, piling up the bottles or car parts without any dividers or any kind of protection is not recommended.
Therefore, the workflow really depends on what kind of material is used for your product. If your product is fragile (like glass bottle) and you want to get a palletized solution of your products, we recommend you to make another additional case for your glass bottle and start the ArtiosCAD Palletization workflow. It will provide you an accordingly designed shipping case and a palletized solution.
In this article, we will cover all possible workflows by using CAPE Palletization and especially if you want to create an additional case for your product before you put them into a shipping case.
Symptoms
If you import a 3D solid image of a bottle into ArtiosCAD and start the Palletization workflow, ArtiosCAD is happy to provide you a palletized solution, but you need to think about a suitable way to palletize your product. Piling up the bottles without any dividers or any kinds of protection is not recommended, but ArtiosCAD won't stop you from any workflow you want to perform. That is why we introduce every possible workflow with CAPE Palletization. You might want to create an additional case for your product before you put them into a shipping case.
Solution
There are four workflows that utilize CAPE Palletization to make a solution. You can use the Table of Contents located in upper right side of this page to find your desired workflow.
Create a palletization solution without any additional primary pack and shipping case from CAPE
You might want to do this if your 3D model is the primary pack or if the product can safely be stacked without any additional protective packaging.
- Open your 3D solid file.

- Start the Palletization process via Palletization > Create Palletized Design... > Pallet Group.

- Select a solution (you can check other solutions by clicking the Right/Left arrows
,
).

Finish.

Make palletization solution of a shipping case created in ArtiosCAD
- Start the Palletization process via Palletization > Create Palletized Design... > Pallet Group.

- Select a solution (you can check other solutions by clicking the Right/Left arrows
,
).

Create a palletization solution with additional primary and shipping case from CAPE
If your 3D model is a product you want pack and ship, like a wine bottle below, you can create a primary carton in ArtiosCAD by running a standard around the product.
If you have a primary carton created and folded in ArtiosCAD, you can proceed directly to step 9.
- Open your 3D solid file.

- Make single box for your 3D solid using "Run a Standard Tool".

- Select the edge representing the length dimension and width dimension.

- Select a design for your carton.

- Select a board for your carton.

- ArtiosCAD will find the Length, Width, and Depth of your A3D design and seed those values into the dialog.
You could change L,W,and D value if you need to, but please be aware that current values set by ArtiosCAD will be the minimum size of your case.

- Click OK. You will get original 3D bottle image with case that you just made.
This case will protect your original product from outside.

- To create a palletized shipping case solution, go to Palletization > Create Palletized Design... > Arrange/Design Group".

- 1 - Select your shipping case type.
2 - Select board for shipping case.
3 - Input your actual product weight.

- Select a solution (you can check other solutions by clicking the Right/Left arrows
,
).

Click File > Export/Exit.

- Convert your design to new 3D (
) .

- Fold design. (
, select 90 degree from drop-down).

- Check your Palletization solution via Palletization > Show Last Palletization Solution.

- Finish.
