Answer

  • OS X versions up to 10.9: Lucida Grande is used.
  • OS X versions from 10.10 and newer: Helvetica Neue is used.

  • For monospaced text Menlo is used with Monaco as a fallback on all OS X versions.

    Monospaced text is also known as fixed-pitch, fixed-width or non-proportional fonts which basically are fonts where all characters are all the same width.
