Overview

CAD-X is an integral part of ArtiosCAD and is tested to the same standard. CAD-X is loaded when ArtiosCAD is being installed or upgraded. There is no separate option to install CAD-X with ArtiosCAD, by default it is part of the installation process.

Things to know

  • If an upgrade is being performed, the version that is being upgraded to is the version of the CAD-X that will be used. For ex.,you have an option to keep multiple versions of ArtiosCAD installed. Upgrading from 12.x to 14.x will use the CAD-X installed with 14.x.
  • Other ESKO software uses CAD-X and can be installed from that media. (This is usually a separate option in the installer).
  • CAD-X is NOT a standalone interface install. It is used for communicating ArtiosCAD information and functionality to other software.
  • If ArtiosCAD Enterprise is being used, CAD-X is defined as ECAD-X.
    • During the install a CAD-X user will be created in WebCenter.
    • An ECAD-X project will also be created once ArtiosCAD calls for it (ex. DXF export).

If you rely on CAD-X for integration you should do the following:

Contact the person responsible for your implementation and let them know you have an upgrade - this could be internal IT, MIS and 3rd party integration suppliers/partners or ESKO solution providers. They may require testing before you install the software, failure to follow their directions may cause service interruptions.

  • Check the system requirements for ArtiosCAD/CAD-x at http://www.esko.com/en/systemrequirements/ and ensure that your system OS/Hardware and Database Engine match those requirements.
  • Defect fixes are described in the release documentation. (This information is available on the ArtiosCAD media).

Licensing

CAD-X is licensed in two different ways.

Level 1 – Allows information known as data codes to be extracted from designs (single design and manufacturing) and images of designs to be viewed in a window.

Level 2 – Allows single designs (not manufacturing designs) to be generated from standard styles or to be rebuilt with different parameters - saved and output. This level also includes the functionality from level 1, i.e., once a single design is created from a standard, viewing and data extraction are also available.

  • Each level is licensed separately and is in the ArtiosCAD license bundle that was purchased.
  • This is same for both CAD-X and ECAD-X.
  • For non-ArtiosCAD users CAD-X is available in blocks of ten concurrent user licenses.
