Summary
When we create a Step and Repeat file in ArtPro and we use an ArtPro file for this, some PANTONE colors can have other namings than using the Normalized PDF
file to create the Step and Repeat.
In this example, it was PANTONE DK GREEN 3425C when the Normalized PDF
file was used and DK GREEN 3425 when the ArtPro file was used.
Symptoms
When we create a Step and Repeat file in ArtPro with the Normalized PDF
file the PANTONE name is PANTONE DK GREEN 3425C, when we use the ArtPro file instead the result is DK GREEN 3425.
Solution
When a file is opened in ArtPro and Load Color Engine Ink Books is "disabled" in the Preferences as shown in the below screenshot, separations are not updated in any way on opening, they are kept and shown *as they were saved in the file*.

So, if the file had previously been saved when there was a Color Engine connection, this means that whatever ink book was associated with the ink at the moment of saving is still being kept in the file.
When viewing the separation information on the Automation Engine, the ink book information is still there.
When a file is opened in ArtPro and Load Color Engine Ink Books is "enabled" in the Preferences, be it loaded from Automation Engine or from the local database, any separations found in the server/local database are *updated*. Both in terms of color values as in terms of ink book matching.
If you have a Color Engine Connection license and the Central resources are on the Automation Engine Server
- In the ArtPro > Preferences > Servers, fill in the connection information for the Automation Engine.
- In the ArtPro > Preferences > Color, select the load Color Engine Ink Books checkbox and choose for Automation Engine.
If you have a Color Engine Connection license and the Central resources are not the Automation Engine Server
- Mount the
bg_data_cms
manually on your machine. - In the ArtPro > Preferences > Servers, fill in the connection information for the Automation Engine.
- In the ArtPro > Preferences > Color, select the load Color Engine Ink Books checkbox and choose to browse to the mounted volume.
If you do not have a Color Engine Connection license
If you don't have an Color Engine connection, but you do want to match the document inks to the standard PANTONE ink books, you could still opt to Load Color Engine Ink Books from the local database in users/Shared/EskoArtwork/Color
Engine
(path will be automatically offered if no Automation Engine is entered on the Server tab).
In that case, if the separation name is an exact match for a PANTONE ink in any of the default PANTONE+ ink books, its color values will be reset to their official definition and only those separations will be linked to the corresponding PANTONE+ ink book. All others will get an "unregistered" ink book notation.
When you then save the ArtPro file again, this updated ink information is saved in the file.
