Instructions to set up an HTTPS connection for the browser based Automation Engine client.
You need an official SSL certificate from a recognized certificate authority to correctly configure the HTTPS connection. If you don't supply an official certificate, a self-signed certificate will be used. In that case, your browser will show a warning that your connection is not secure because the authenticity of the certificate can not be verified.
Changing the connection settings requires a restart of the Job Server. When you do this, make sure that there are no tasks running on the Automation Engine Server.
Proceed as follows:
Import the certificate into the Windows Certificate Store for the Automation Engine system account. By default, this user is 'BGSystem'. Note: The below steps assume that the AE system account name is 'BGSystem'. When that is no longer the case, just replace 'BGSystem' in below steps with your custom name of your system account.
Log in as user BGSystem and go to the Manage computer certificates control panel. Alternatively, you can launch the Manage User Certificates control panel when logged in as another user by following these steps:
Open a command prompt: type 'cmd' in the search field in the Windows Taskbar and press 'enter'
Enter following command on the command prompt: runas /user:BGSystem "cmd /c mmc certmgr.msc"
Enter the password for the user BGSystem.
In the left pane, navigate to the Personal > Certificates and right-click in Certificates . Choose All Tasks... > Import....
Navigate to the location where the certificate is stored and follow the wizard.
Once the wizard is finished, the imported certificate should show up in the list on the right. Make sure the entry Personal > Certificates is selected.
Check the column Friendly Name for the imported certificate.
Take note of this name ; it is used later on to configure Automation Engine.
If the the certificate has no Friendly Name then right-click the certificate > Properties.
On the first tab General, the first input field is used to set the Friendly Name.
Apply and Close the dialog. Verify that the certificate now has the name set.
Go to the Browser Based Client Tab on the localhost ServerAdmin pages.
The localhost ServerAdmin pages can only be accessed from the Automation Engine Server computer. This is by default URL: http://localhost:9897
Go to Server Config > Browser Based Client
Select Use HTTPS.
Select the Friendly Name from the list of SSL Certificates.
It is recommended to disable http: deselect Use HTTP and optionally enable Redirect HTTP to HTTPS.
