Summary

How to change the language of an Automation Engine Pilot from its default English language?

Solution

The language used in the Pilot is defined by the regional settings of the user on that client computer. You can however change this language without changing these regional settings.

Depending on the version of Automation Engine and on the client's OS, you can do this by changing the Pilot's desktop shortcut or by changing a properties file:

  1. Since AE 10.x and on Windows only: By adding a variable in the desktop shortcut of the Pilot:
    1. Right-click the shortcut, go to 'Properties' -> 'Target'
    2. Add one of below lines after ...\bin\javaw.exe

      -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US (for English)
      -Duser.language=de -Duser.region=DE (for German)
      -Duser.language=es -Duser.region=SP (for Spanish)
      -Duser.language=fr -Duser.region=FR (for French)
      -Duser.language=it -Duser.region=IT (for Italian)
      -Duser.language=ja -Duser.region=JP (for Japanese)
      -Duser.language=zh -Duser.region=CN (for Chinese)
    3. Click 'OK' to save this change

Example for a Pilot in German

      C:\Esko\bg_prog_fastservercltnt_v121\jre\bin\javaw.exe -Duser.language=de -Duser.region=DE -Xmx512m -Dbg.properties="C:\Esko\bg_data_fastservercltnt_v100\bg.properties" -jar "C:\Esko\bg_prog_fastservercltnt_v121\classes\pilot2.jar"

  2. Since AE 12.0, on Mac and Windows, you can (also) change the Pilot language by changing the file "bg.properties".
    1.  The bg.properties file can be located in the following path:
      • On Windows
        • For Automation Engine 12.0.x, the bg.properties file is located here: %userprofile%\Esko

        • For Automation Engine 12.1 and newer, the bg.properties file is located here: \Esko\bg_data_fastservercltnt_v100

      • On Mac OS X:
        • /users/username/Esko
    2. Open this properties file in a text editor (like Notepad++) and add the line shown in the example below, corresponding to your target language:

Extension to the bg.properties file (example for German)
      #
      user.language = de
      user.region = GE
      bg.server=automation_engine_hostname_of_server

      For English :

      • user.language = en
      • user.region = US

      For German :

      • user.language = de
      • user.region = GE

      For Spanish :

      • user.language = es
      • user.region = SP

      For French :

      • user.language = fr
      • user.region = FR

      For Italian :

      • user.language = it
      • user.region = IT

      For Japanese :

      • user.language = ja
      • user.region = JA

      For Chinese (simplified) :

      • user.language = zh
      • user.region = CN

      For Chinese (traditional) :

      • user.language = zh
      • user.region = TW

      For Korean :

      • user.language = ko
      • user.region= KR

Language of log file of task "Apply ArtPro Action List":

To have the log file of the task "Apply ArtPro Action List" in the user language:

      1. On the AE server, install the foreign language kit for that version of Windows.
