When installing the Automation Engine 12.2 SQL Database Engine, the first part of installation is installing SQL Express 2008.

If .NET Framework 3.5 is not activated in the Windows Features, SQL installation will fail.

Often, activating the feature .NET Framework 3.5 will fail as well.

Most documentation indicates that the Windows installation media will be needed to correct this issue.

  5. Run the SQL installer again.

When you have done step 3. You have to go back to " Turn Windows features on or off" and select "Appilcationserver" (Anwendungsserver in german edition). Then click on "next". There you can select ".NET Framework 3.4"

The part "Applicationserver" is missing in above KB-article.
