Checking and registering of a graphical document, to prepare view files, can fail for a number of reasons. One of the causes can be neglecting to embed fonts in the file.

Symptoms
The view files for the file are not prepared, meaning you do not see a thumbnail and are not able to view the file in the WebCenter Viewer.
In the Document Action History, you can see an icon indicating that "checking and registering" has failed.
If you click Show Task Details, you see the following errors:
Substitution font <FONT NAME> cannot be found
Font <FONT NAME> could not be parsed

In case you see all the symptoms described above, it means that the uploaded file is not self-containing. To be able to prepare view files, all images and fonts should be embedded.
Follow these steps to correct the issue:
Open the PDF in your editor of choice.
Save it again and this time make sure to embed all fonts.
