Question

How does ArtPro+ 18.1 handle color profiles?

Answer

ArtPro+ is able to detect a document profile, an output intent and tagged images.

Here is an overview of the behavior when detecting a color profile.

Color profile behavior when working with Normalized PDF files

Normalized PDF files don't have tagged images (tagged with an ICC profile) neither do they have an output intent defined.

Color profiles can only be used when defining a document profile.

Type of document profileArtPro+ color profile behavior

No document profile

Default document profile used:  “ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc”.

AP+ Document profile

The default document profile is defined in the preferences:
Edit > Options > Default Document Profile

Note that only CMYK icc profiles are supported! (ArtPro+ 18.1)

Note that ArtPro+ doesn't save the default document profile when saving the job!

Icc profile

ICC profile used as document profile (default document profile overruled!)

Esko profile

Esko profile converted to a temp ICC profile
(e.g. “PERFORMA_CMYK” converted to "proc_074863.icc”)

Note that ArtPro+ doesn't save the temp document profile when saving the job!

Color profile behavior when working with Native PDF files

Adobe applications can "tag" a document with a document or working space profile but this profile can only be added to a Native PDF as an output intent (requires an export as PDF/X). ArtPro+ reads this output intent when available!

Type of PDFArtPro+ color profile behavior

Native PDF/X >  ICC output intent

ICC output intent used as document profile

Native PDF > no output intent

default document profile used (ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc)

Color profile behavior when working with ArtPro files

ArtPro doesn't know the concept of a document profile but you can define a CMYK working space profile.

The working space profile is ignored when opening an ArtPro file in ArtPro+, instead the default ArtPro+ document profile is used.

Color profile behavior for tagged images inside a Native PDF file

Images inside a Native PDF can be tagged with an ICC profile. Tagged images are detected and supported by ArtPro+!
