Do Esko software products run on Macs with Apple Silicon (like Macs with the M1 chip) ?

Answer

Apple has shared its plan to migrate their entire Mac product line from an Intel chip architecture to their own chipset. On , they announced their first "Apple Silicon" computers with an ARM-based M1 chip running macOS 11 Big Sur.

Software that runs on macOS 11 Big Sur, does not necessarily run on the new ARM-based Macs.

To make optimal use of this hardware, software needs to be adapted to run natively on the ARM chip. Applications that can run natively on both Intel and ARM chips are called "Universal Apps". As an alternative, macOS 11 has Rosetta 2 technology to run Intel-based applications on ARM-based Macs. Rosetta 2 does not necessarily work for all applications.

Before you purchase an ARM-based Mac, you should check compatibility with your software providers. The table below shows the support status for Esko products:
