The basics

Product keys and product key files

To activate your licenses, you need a product key or multiple product keys. A product key is a code which consists of 5 sextets: ABCDEF-123456-GHIJKL-789012-MNOPQR

Because many Esko products require multiple product keys, we have combined them into HTML-files: Product key files.

You can find more information on where to find your product keys or product key files here:

Online activation and offline activation

We support two ways to activate your licenses:

  • Online activation
  • Offline activation

During the activation process, a machine fingerprint (=a unique identifier of your computer) needs to be sent to the Esko license server and the Esko license server needs to send you the license to use the software. This means that at some point you need an Internet connection.

  • If you're activating a license on a computer that is connected to the Internet, you can do an online activation.
  • If you're activating a license on a computer that is not connected to the Internet, you can do an offline activation. In short:
    1. you create a request file on the computer without Internet access (to make the machine fingerprint).
    2. you transfer the request file to a computer with Internet access and upload the file to the Esko website.
    3. from the Esko website you receive a response file (which contains the license).
    4. you transfer the response file back to the computer without Internet access and you load it to receive your license.

You can find more details about the Esko activation mechanism here:

Local licenses and network licenses

We offer two types of licenses:

  • Local licenses: a local license is locked to the computer where you activated it. This means that you can only use the software on that specific computer.
    • Local licenses are managed in the Local License Manager.
  • Network licenses: a network license floats between computers. This means that you activate it on a server, and you can use the software on any machine that is connected to that server.
    • Network licenses are managed in the Network License Manager.

Server applications (Automation Engine, Imaging Engine, WebCenter,...) are only available with network licenses.

Client applications (ArtiosCAD, ArtPro, DeskPack, PackEdge, Plato, Studio,...) are available with local and with network licenses. By default we deliver local licenses.
