Summary

When installing Automation Engine 12.1 Pilot on Mac OS 10.6.3, error occurs and the installation stops.

Symptoms

When installing Automation Engine 12.1 Pilot on Mac OS 10.6.3, the following error window pops up:

There were errors with the installation.

The installation failed, The Installer could not install the software.

The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install.

 

Open the Console log. Checking the install.log file located at private/var/log, shows the following contents:

 

Oct 17 09:22:54 as-iMac Installer[226]: Packagefile://localhost/Volumes/Automation%20Engine%20Client%2012.1/Automation%20Engine%20Client%2012.1.mpkg#Automation%20Engine%20Client%2012.1.pkg not supported by PK

Oct 17 09:22:54 as-iMac Installer[226]: PFPackage::packageWithURL - can't instantiate package: /Volumes/Automation Engine Client 12.1/Automation Engine Client 12.1.mpkg

Oct 17 09:22:54 as-iMac Installer[226]: Error opening package "Automation Engine Client 12.1.mpkg#egsissrv.pkg".

Oct 17 09:22:54 as-iMac Installer[226]: Install failed: The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install.

Solution

Upgrade to Mac OSX 10.6.8.

After the upgrade, there is another error: "The installation failed, an unknown installation error occurred. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

Updating the security updates solves the problem:

  1. Go to the Apple menu and click Software Update.
  2. Install the security updates.
