Summary

Automation Engine/BackStage Viewer gives the following error: "Cannot open image \\servername\xxx\xxx.pdf", when trying to retrieve image settings. This error occurs when the "Get file info" from the server fails.

Symptoms

Automation Engine/BackStage Viewer gives the following error: "Cannot open image \\servername\xxx\xxx.pdf", when trying to retrieve image settings. The imagelist.log file shows the following messages:

UpdateServerSettings: error: call to get view assistants failed with error code -1

Warning: file info call failed! 367172 21b8: GetViewSettings 

Solution

Check if the bg_server environment variable points to the BackStage/Automation Engine Server. If not, do Select Server.

To do Select Sever, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to Start > Programs > Esko > Automation Engine Select Server xx.x > Select Server.
  2. Type the name of the Automation Engine Server and click Check.
  3. If the server can be reached, the status will change to "Connection with server OK".
  4. Click OK to exit the Select Server tool.

This solution applies to all BackStage versions and only to Automation Engine 12.0.1.
