Why does it take longer to export a Normalized PDF to a separated PDF compared to a composite PDF?

Answer

No resolving (flattening) is needed when exporting a Normalized PDF using the Export to PDF task as a composite PDF.

However, when exporting as a separated PDF, the task needs to resolve all transparencies and overprints. This is a time and resource consuming operation, hence takes a longer time.
